Rogue Leveling Guide - Beginning As a Rogue

If you play your rogue right, you're in for a very easy ride to 80. A rogue is a great character to play because of their high damage output and they are very eligible to speed leveling. You can get far and very fast with a rogue if you know what you're doing. The level ranges given are just a rough idea of what you can expect to be doing at any particular time. Read my brief rogue leveling guide and discover the best talent build for leveling and the most important statistics for your rogue.

Rogue Leveling Talent Build

Finding the perfect talent build for rogue leveling is one of the greatest challenges in the WOW, that is why this rogue leveling guide is mainly about choosing the best talents. As with every classes leveling build you're aiming to maximise your sustained DPS.

Well, when it comes to a rogue, the best talent spec is probably the Combat talent tree. With the Combat talent tree, you'll get a very consistent and high DPS, which is important for a rogue. Despite, we choose the Combat tree, your first talent should be the Malice, which increases your critical strike chance. Now you can start picking talents from the Combat tree, such as Dual Wield Specialization, Precision, Deflection and Close Quarter Combat. Your next talent will be the Blade Furry, which will allow you to kill multiple opponents at the same time, thus accelerating your XP gain. The surprise attack talent is also very good as it allows you to increase your general damage.

The subtlety tree is more of a pvp talent tree featuring lots of utility type abilities but not ones which will necessarily help your sustained damage. This leaves you with both Assassination and combat. Both are viable options but most will spec combat after level 40, when you can use Adrenaline rush and blade flurry to do some seriously fast killing every once in a while.

Rogue Leveling Gears & Weapons

Gearing a rogue is, like with most other melee classes during the leveling process, all about maximizing damage while leaving just enough stamina for a reasonable health. The most important statistic for your rogue is the agility, since it will increase your attack power, critical strike rating and dodge rating. Critical strike rating and attack power are also important. You’ll find these in greater amounts on items with higher numbers of stamina or other single stats – Whether this makes them worthwhile to equip or not is up to you.

About choosing the right weapon -  there's a constant heated debate in the World of Warcraft forums about which weapons are the best for leveling as well as what builds. While generally speaking, swords are supposedly better for leveling. The benefit of using a sword (or mace) as your mainhand weapon is that every hit will result in dealing a large damage to the enemy. When using a sword sinister strikes are twice as powerful, particularly in these early WoW level sinister strikes can be almost as powerful as a backstab attack. Moreover, when using Swords you don't really need to be concerned with positioning - just smash with your Sinister Strike.

About Gems - You won't find too many pieces of gear that require gems while leveling, but there are a few. If you can afford it look for Agility, Crit rating, Hit Rating, and Stamina.

Quests for Rogue Leveling

Quests makes things fun in the game, but you have to choose them correctly. As you probably know, there are thousands of quests in the World of Warcraft and a few zillion monsters to slay. Keeping track of all those quests, looking up the details and figuring out where to go and what to do can become a drag, at times.

To keep track of it all, and level quickly and easily, we've been using Zygor's Guide. It tells you what quests to do. The in game window will tell you where to go to accept a quest, where to go to complete it, how to complete it, and then where to turn it in. It also automatically moves to the next step in the leveling chain upon completion. It even gives you an arrow and distance to your next objective to point you in the right direction, and to be honest it made the game a lot more fun for me.

I agree with you about using swords for leveling. It's better to use a combat build thant a subltety or assassination build anyway, there's no need to pass on the damage bonus!
